Are you a mom with ADHD trying to homeschool your kids? Have you considered it but thought that with ADHD you might have a hard time with the boring boxed curriculum? Did you know there is a group of moms in that same boat you’re in now and there are options?
Meet Maile Lui
Today I speak with Maile Lui. She was a special education teacher for 15 years with a “buttload of credentials and a board certification”. When the pandemic hit, Maile’s son started struggling in school and therapy. It was hard for her to watch her son struggling as an educator and as a mom. Her next move was to homeschool. Then, her recent diagnosis with ADHD pushed her to start her business. She is the CEO of Girl Squirrel Solutions for moms with ADHD who are homeschooling their kids .

“Not even on our worst day will we ever put him back into public school”
All kids struggled when the pandemic hit and everyone started virtual learning. Some more than others. For Maile’s son who was diagnosed at the age of 4 with ADHD it was significantly harder. But they powered through school and therapies. When school returned, He was in 3rd grade. He couldn’t move all day, he had to stay in one spot. That’s when Maile decided to take the plunge. She left her teaching career and started homeschooling her son.
The right fit
“You’re steering a big ship”
It’s not an easy decision to make, homeschooling. It’s not always the right fit for a mother or for the child. And, it was hard for Maile to leave teaching. She teared up at the sight of school supplies for a while. But she knew what her son needed and boy did she make the right choice for both of them. Now an interruption during the day can be worked through quickly whereas in public school, it may have lasted most of the school day. Like they say, “you have to take care of you, so that you can care for others”. The same applies to homeschooling your children. You have to be in the right place. You’re steering a big ship.
Girl Squirrel Schooling
When she started homeschooling, Maile didn’t feel like she fit in with the other homeschool moms. She loved connecting with moms like herself and kids of all flavors!! She’s a kid at heart and believes that if there is no joy in your homeschool, then we need to change it up. So she started her business to help other moms like herself and so many others.
Girl Squirrel Schooling will be a monthly membership (ADHD mom friendly) launching in March. Membership presale starts February 15th. You can sign up for the waitlist. And a 1:1 Coaching program will launch in April 2022.
