You know what’s even more important than walking lunges or burpees?? The roadmap for your fitness journey! Where are you going? What is your end destination? This roadmap is going to be with you for the rest of your life so you better make sure you have a good plan in place!
You have to know your end destination and what your “person B” looks like. This is something we discuss in my group, Busy to Bomb Fit Mom. I always use the example of a GPS system – I want you to imagine wanting to go somewhere. You have this end destination, but you never put that into the GPS system… You never write down or enter in, “Hey, I want to go to Disneyland. This is the address.” You’ll never get anywhere this way! You guys, this is the same exact thing when it comes to our health and fitness. You have to get crystal clear about where you want to go and envision it over and over again! When you do that, it’s going to lead you to know how to act and how to behave. You want to act as if you are that person B before you even become her! I always tell people this because the more you practice, the more you act as if, you are going to step right into those shoes when the time is right!
Everyone wants to skip this process. I always hear, “Oh my God, I’ve got to lose 10 pounds!” I feel like everyone always has this grand idea of what they want their end result to look like. First of all, there shouldn’t be an “end goal”! Fitness is a lifelong journey! If that isn’t your mindset, I need you to change that right now before we go any further! Sooo many people want the quick fix and yea, maybe they do lose 20 pounds in 6 months! But you need to be able to sustain this new, healthy lifestyle because if you aren’t there mentally, you will be right back to where you started!
When I have someone new join my program, and let’s say they weigh 180 pounds but their goal weight is 130… Isn’t incredibly overwhelming to think about losing 50 pounds! I always make the point of saying, “Okay, let’s focus on getting you down to 175.” You know why? Most of the time, this woman that is new to my group, has never seen the number 7 on her scale. Losing just that five pounds is going to take hard work and dedication! We take it one step at a time, and with some guidance and accountability, I know it’s possible!
Let’s go back to your person B. I know this confuses some people because you’re like “you want me to be someone else, Melissa??” Well, yes… And no! Of course, I want you to be yourself! But when you decide to get serious about your health and fitness, one thing that will make it stick is acting as if you are your person B! Say you want to be a Bomb Mom, well when you get in situations like coming home from your kid’s practice at 8 p.m. and you haven’t eaten yet, what decision are you going to make? You could easilyyy just stop at the nearest fast food place and get a burger, but would a Bomb Mom do that?! Hell no she wouldn’t!! The next time this decision comes up, I want you to stop and think… What would your person B do? Would she give up and just get the fast food? Or would she say, “I’ve worked too damn hard to get to where I am, I’ll wait until I get home to eat something nutritious!” Stop and think about your person B. I’m telling you, this will make such a difference!
Some of you might not even have a person B yet. Maybe you don’t know exactly what decisions she would make or what she would choose to eat. That’s okay! You can totally use someone else as your person B. Find someone that you admire and look up to as a mentor in your fitness journey. Hell, it could even be me! What would Melissa do? If you don’t even know what you would do on your fitness journey because it’s so new to you, think of someone else! I even do this! J Lo is my person B. If you check her out on Instagram she just looks insaneeee! She’s hot as hell and has such a gorgeous body. Do you think J Lo sits around and binges jelly beans all day? You can bet that she definitely doesn’t! She wouldn’t have the body she does if she did do that! I cannot stress enough how important it is to act as if! This is going to start that mental shift for you guys and this is where you’ll notice that lifestyle change!
I’m going to give you a little warning right now… This might not work for you! You might even get a little frustrated that you aren’t your person B yet. I’m telling you, that’s okay! But after you start doing this for a while and you actually stop and think about the decisions you’re making, your mindset will shift! When you do stop and make decisions, you are working your mindset muscle and making yourself stronger! You’ll end up eating like your person B, working out like your person B and you’ll notice that when those pounds start coming off, you’ll even start dressing like her because you feel more confident!
This a step in your fitness journey that I will not let you skip. This is what is going to help you sustain this healthy, fit lifestyle for the rest of your life!! Ready to get started? I have some action steps you can take:
1. Create your ‘person B’ – what does she look like, what does she look like in a bathing suit? What does she eat? What does her schedule look like?
2. How long will it take you to get to be ‘person B’?
3. How will your relationships change when you become ‘person B’? Identify some roadblocks and some crucial conversations you will need to have with those closest to you.
