You are becoming aware of what you’re eating and your activity levels, that’s great! But guess what? You have little eyes watching and absorbing everything you’re doing. Even if you have older kids, they are watching you.
Setting an example
When you become more health-conscious and fit, it’s really important that your kids see the balance and know the truth about what you’re doing.
Don’t use the words:
- Fat
- Skinny
- Losing weight
Sharing information
- Make sure that you inform your kids that food is fuel and why you are choosing certain foods.
- Have open and honest conversations with them about activity and make sure that you’re not sitting all-day
- Don’t vent about your progress and let them overhear negative self-talk
- Let them see you working out but also enjoy ice cream and cookies
- Teach them about balance
We have to model the example, we have to model what we want our kids to see us do. We can’t yell at them to get active if we’re not doing it ourselves.
What you’re doing and how you’re changing yourself affects the entire family. And the more of a positive effect you can have on your family, the better. So, go ahead and make your kids part of your fitness journey!
