Going from Keto to Carbs
Going from Keto to this new way of eating can be challenging. In your brain, carbs are not bad, carbs help your brain function. If you don’t have carbs your brain doesn’t work, if you don’t have sugar, your brain doesn’t work. But beyond what your mentality is with carbs and how that is going to change over time, the actual metabolism of your body is going to change. You will be eating more while you’re lifting. Your body’s going to change, it might shrink and then it might expand, and then it’s going to shrink a whole lot. Your body has to relearn how to use carbs because you basically starved it from carbs, even the good ones. Be prepared for a crazy shift in your body, coming off of keto, your body’s trying to reprocess everything and your metabolism is going to be all wonky.
Paying attention to our bodies
When Melissa was trying to fall pregnant with her second child, she had to track her cycle and learn everything she could about her body. There is so much that goes into having a baby…temperature, fluids, timing, you have to learn about how your body functions. Tracking your calorie intake and your workouts is the same thing.
We’re not cavemen anymore, we’re not moving as much as humans were designed to so we need to pay more attention to how we are functioning in this world, especially during quarantine, we have to up our game. We need to be responsible for the food we’re eating and our activity levels because we are living in a time that we’ve never lived in before. Our whole world is different and people don’t want to hear the truth, they don’t want to take responsibility. We need to learn about our bodies, it’s the number one thing that we should be tracking and no one teaches us that, no one talks about it.
Lifting weights
Fat can’t live where muscle grows!
Is it better to lift heavy weights or lighter weights? Melissa always goes to the side of lifting heavier. It’s going to produce more muscle growth and more lactic acid, and the more lactic acid you have built up in the muscles, the more muscle you’re going to build. Squats are also amazing for you. They’re going to keep burning fat as you do them so if you’re pushing, by your last rep you should really be making noise. If you’re not making weird grunts and noises, then you’ve got more in you. Melissa always errs on the side of more, unless you have an injury that you can’t push. We still want the burn in the muscle though so, if you do have an injury, you can work around it, use lighter weights and do more reps to burn that way.
I am capable!
We don’t realize how capable we are until it actually happens. We have to see and feel proof to know, and it’s kind of sad, but that’s just how we work, and there’s nothing wrong with that. We have to prove it to ourselves first without injury or dying. Chances are, you’re not going to die, you’re just going to feel like you are.
We need to prove to our minds and bodies that we are capable.
